As a whole, electric guitarists tend to favor uncomplicated gear. As such, the ordinary guitarist will most likely choose simple stompboxes. That’s probably why very few guitar pedals have more than three knobs or buttons. In fact, there are a few players that feel three knobs are even too many. If this sounds like you, just face it, you’re going to have to take some time and teach yourself what the knobs on your guitar pedals do. A great place to start learning how to dial in your own sounds is with a delay stompbox like the MXR Carbon Copy.

Insert the Carbon Copy into your signal chain.

Your guitar plugs into the input of the Carbon Copy. Then connect the Output jack of the Carbon Copy straight to the Input of your guitar amp.

Before you add the Carbon Copy, you’ll need to determine where to put it in relation to your other stompboxes. The ordinary rule of thumb for guitar signal chains is dynamics processing (compressor/limiters), followed by distortion/boosters, followed by modulation processing (delay/reverb).

Understanding what each control does.

Delay:

The Delay knob allows you to modify the amount of delay time from 20ms (fully counter-clockwise) to 600ms (fully clockwise).

Regen:

The Regen knob allows you to set the number of delay repeats from one (fully counter-clockwise) to infinite (fully clockwise). The Regen knob functions together with the Delay knob so modifying the settings of one will affect the other.

Mix:

The Mix knob allows you to change the amount of delayed, or “wet”, signal from completely dry (fully counter-clockwise) to equivalent amounts of wet and dry (fully clockwise).

Mod:

The Modulation button allows you to add a certain amount of modulation to the delay signal. Modulation is an effect that changes the pitch of a signal by a small, regularly occurring amount, making a warbling effect.

There are two internal trim pots inside the Carbon Copy that provide allow you to alter the width and rate controls of the modulation effect.

Effect on/off switch:

Like most guitar pedals, the Carbon Copy has a foot-switch that toggles on and off.

So Make Some Noise

Start with the Delay and Mix knobs set entirely clockwise and the Regen knob set fully counter-clockwise. Turn the pedal on by stepping on the footswitch. A blue LED illuminates when the effect is engaged. Now just take some time to dial in your desired sound by adjusting the three knobs in relation to each other.

Don’t let a lack of experience stop you from twisting those knobs. Experimentation can deliver amazing outcomes.

PRS has crafted lots of top quality guitars through the years, but none of them can match up against the PRS Hollowbody when it comes to elegance and tone. It’s possibly the most amazing and precise sounding guitar PRS has ever built. The form from the guitar appears like a masterpiece created by a famous artist and also the tone it produces is extremely unique in comparison with other semi-hollow guitars on the market today. It’s excellent in terms of acoustics and may produce a multitude of tones. It is among the faves within their semi-hollow line.

The Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody guitar is created with merely a small block underneath the bridge which connects the rear and the surface of the body. Because of this, the PRS Hollowbody has superb acoustics, with the kind of wood it’s produced from. The initial Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody model was already stopped but like an alternative, the Hollowbody 2 is a lot more exquisite and magnificent. The brand new version now has a V12 finish which perfectly improves the wood employed for the guitar. Another new addition towards the Hollowbody 2 may be the Pattern Neck Shape which enables for any comfortable feel.

The PRS Hollowbody 2 has several features. Its body is made of carved figured maple in the top and back while mahogany is used in the side. As stated above, it has a V12 finish which gives the guitar a vintage look. Paul Smith said that this type of finish gives the guitar the perception of an old instrument with a new finish. The neck is made of mahogany with bound rosewood on the fretboard. It modeled after the 25″ scale with 22 frets. The Pattern Neck Shape is a fat and wide neck style based on Paul Smith’s pre-factory design. The shape is similar to the guitars made for Carlos Santana and Peter Frampton in the 70’s and 80’s. It also has the trademark abalone birds on the inlays. The hardware used for the Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody 2 are Piezo Stoptail, and PRS Phase 3 locking tuners. The cover of the truss rod has the engraving HB II and the type of hardware used is nickel. The pickups installed in the guitar are 57/08 Treble on the bridge and 57/08 on the neck. It has the standard volume and tone knobs and a 3 way pickup selector. The new addition to the latest Hollowbody guitar is the PRS/LR Baggs Piezo System. This innovation allows you to plug the guitar into your recording console or PA and your guitar amp at the same time. The piezo option provides a huge variety of tones that you can produce and several switching possibilities as well. The hardware usually comes in gold instead of the basic chrome option.

The best thing about a PRS Hollowbody is the sound that it produces. If you are the type of guitarist who’s looking for a guitar that has very long sustain, then this is the perfect guitar for you. Due to the acoustics of the guitar, the sustain keeps going and going for however long you want it to be. This is actually the best asset of this guitar. None of the other guitars in the market can compare to the sustain that this guitar produces. The neck pickup gives a great blend which produces a nice thick and warm tone when you turn up the volume. When you use the bridge pickup, it produces a very nice bright sound. It sounds like a humbucker but it has a slight treble twang much like a tele. When you switch the pickup selector to the middle setting which combines both the neck and bridge pickup, it produces an unbelievable blend of bass and treble that you can’t find in any other hollowbody guitar. The sound that this guitar produces is best suitable for jazz, blues and classic rock genres. Some say that you can’t play heavy metal with this guitar, but others also say that with the right adjustment on the amp and the drive pedal, you can still achieve that heavy crunch perfect for a metal sound.

The action of a Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody is like every other PRS guitar, which is ideal. Despite the fat and wide neck, you still feel relaxed and having fun with it even when you are accustomed to thin ones. The Pattern Neck Style really was designed to make a “homey” effect when playing. The intonation can also be perfect and incredibly stable that you simply don’t genuinely have the necessity to adjust it. For the paint finish of the guitar, it’s absolutely magnificent. It looks as if it has a three dimensional sticker whenever you have a close view at it. That’s how elaborate the finish is. The paint finish is what you should expect from a PRS 10-top. Among the best reasons for a hollowbody is it can also be very light. After hours of playing, you’re shoulders won’t even get strained in comparison to whenever you play with a Les Paul or any other heavier guitar.

A PRS guitar, that Hollowbody one is also very durable and also dependable. While you will have to be further vigilant given that it’s hole, although all round, it is actually made being a container. The care to get a good body guitar along with a whole physique one is really unique, because the hollowed out bodied guitar is a lot more sensitive versus the solid a person. Nonetheless needlessly to say coming from PRS, you’ll not need to panic about the wear and tear and grab as you can hardly recognize it in the long run people. The finale will not be broken down despite five years people. Consumer electronics never ever receives messed up and unquestionably shows with this guitar with virtually no backup. That is certainly precisely how reliable this kind of guitar is usually. However, it becomes far wiser in the event you set up straps hair being a measure of extra care to protect yourself from acquiring blemishes and marks to the guitar in the event you accidentally drop them.

When PRS developed the following guitar, they constantly looked at achieving the best great hollowbody guitar that they can develop. As evidence its good quality, it will be the most favorite hollowbody guitar that PRS has ever introduced. A innovations this PRS place in to that guitar, such as the Pattern Neck Style, Piezo System along with the V12 finish off is why this particular guitar a cut above the others. This is really a wonderfully made guitar intended for guitar lovers and also guitar noobs likewise.

There’s nothing like picking up and shredding on your first PRS Hollowbody.

The PRS Single Cut series is probably the most controversial guitar ever made. To understand why this guitar is so controversial, we must first take a look at one of the most famous guitars ever made, which is the Gibson Les Paul. The Les Paul is a solid body electric guitar design which was made famous by Gibson and was first sold in 1952. The Les Paul design was the result of the collaboration between Ted McCarty and then famous guitarist Les Paul, hence the name of the design. Now, the Paul Reed Smith Single Cut design almost looks exactly like a Gibson Les Paul, minus the pickguard and other obvious features like the tone and volume knobs. Of course, the electronics design of the PRS Single Cut is very different from a Les Paul. To sum it up, the only thing similar between a Gibson Les Paul and a PRS Single Cut is the shape.

Gibson and PRS have been fighting over dominance in the market for years, but Gibson finally filed a lawsuit in 2000 against PRS, saying the Paul Reed Smith Single Cut guitar is a trademark infringement on Gibson’s Les Paul guitar shape. Gibson won in a federal court but PRS filed for an appeal to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and won. The reason why I’m stating this is because this holds testimony to the quality of a PRS Single Cut guitar. Once you’ve played a Single Cut guitar, you will see that this guitar is a first rate instrument, enough for Gibson to be worried about their Les Paul model, that they sued PRS.

Single Cut designs, specifically the SE series consists of a mahogany body, maple top, a PRS designed stoptail, and a flame maple veneer. The neck is wide-fat and is made of mahogany with rosewood a fretboard and has 22 frets. The PRS specially designed humbucker pickups create various tones that would fit any music style that you want to play. The neck has the customary bird inlays and is set up in a 25 inch scale length. The electronics include PRS designed tuners and has a “PRS” truss rod cover. The hardware is made of nickel and the pickups consist of one treble and one bass PRS designed humbucker pickup. It has one tone knob, one volume knob, and a three way toggle pickup selector. These features are the general norm of a Single Cut guitar.

If you are questioning whether or not the verdict of the court case was right, and if you desire to know how a Single Cut compares to a Les Paul, then you don’t have to worry. Once you’ve held and played a Paul Reed Smith Single Cut guitar, you will arrive to the conclusion that they are both totally different guitars. Although they look a lot like the other, they are nothing like each other. The Single Cut guitar can provide the more recognized Gibson Les Paul good competition anytime bearing in mind that Gibson hasn’t done just about anything regarding their Les Pauls of late.

A Paul Reed Smith Single Cut guitar is more suitable for a rock oriented guitarist because of the tone it produces. Most Single Cut players notice that the treble and bass humbucker pickup combination produces a fat sound that is best suited for classic or modern rock genres. Compared to a Gibson Les Paul, a PRS Single Cut guitar is less muddy and more precise. It isn’t too boomy, since it has the perfect blend of treble and bass. The clean tone of a Single Cut is so neat that it almost doesn’t matter which amp you plug it into. Once you pair this guitar with a good or at least decent distortion pedal, you will feel the crunch that isn’t present on any other guitar in the market. Due to the sound that this guitar makes, you can easily switch from playing songs from bands like Metallica to songs from bands like Coldplay without having to change guitars. That is how versatile the tone of a Single Cut is.

The action, fit and finish of this guitar is virtually watertight right out of the box. Most guitarists who possess a Single Cut have identical observations. The action is incredibly smooth, considering that the neck is fat and wide. Guitarists who are used to fat and wide necks will not have trouble at all getting accustomed to the neck of a Single Cut. The finish is also wonderful and long-lasting as well. Although the guitar doesn’t have a pickguard, you will on no account see scratches as a result of playing. The only downside that most guitarists see regarding this guitar is the tuners. Seeing as this guitar doesn’t utilize the original PRS Locking Tuners, the steadiness of the tune isn’t as high against say a PRS Custom 24 guitar. But that is just a negligible imperfection for this guitar. In general, this guitar is wonderful, action isn’t excessively low that it makes string buzz. The fit is perfect that you feel at ease playing either standing up or sitting down, and it isn’t as weighty as a regular Les Paul. The finish is a thing of magnificence that you will feel like staring at it for hours.

The Single Cut guitar is made to endure the test of time. This is one of the most durable guitars out on the market today. The electronics seldom get messed up and the wood that PRS uses to craft this beauty is very durable. You will hardly see any wear and tear on this guitar, even after three plus years of playing. The stock strap buttons are high quality, but to more meticulous guitarists, they may want to switch a more specific strap lock. It is also very reliable because of the accurate sound that it produces. Even if you gig with this guitar everyday for a year, you will still not need a backup guitar. That is how reliable and durable this guitar is.

The first impression that every guitarist gets from the PRS Single Cut is that ‘it is just like a Les Paul, only it’s a PRS’, but once they get to play it and get up close and personal, they all begin to see that this guitar is more than just a Les Paul look alike. It is actually very different, apart from the shape. The Single Cut sounds way different from a Les Paul. Most guitarists even forget their LPs and use the Single Cut as their main axe because of the diversity of sound that it can produce, plus it also has a better feel in the neck. Most owners of Single Cut guitars say that if their guitar got stolen or lost, they would buy the same thing since it isn’t pricey. That is also one of the advantages of a Single Cut. It isn’t expensive; it’s like getting a high end guitar for one fourth the price. Overall, this guitar is worth every penny that you spend on it. The tone is very diverse and very precise. It sounds as good as it looks which is basically PRS’ trademark. It truly more than what you would expect from a Les Paul look alike.

The PRS Single Cut tends to be a controversial electric guitar. To be sure you have all the possible lowdown about a Paul Reed Smith Single Cut, and check out at these sites before you buy one.

I’ve seen it so many times before. You buy a new guitar and happily strum away on it for a few days, before the jack socket becomes so loose you have to do something about it.

Every guitar I’ve had, every guitar any of my mates have had. It’s always the same. You get your tools out, turn it ’till it’s tight again, then some time later, it’s come undone again. And so it goes on, until one day the guitar goes dead.

What happens – After repeatedly tightening the outside nut up, the wire inside becomes twisted and under stress, so eventually one of the wires attached to the socket comes off and you’re left with a dead guitar. As many guitarists don’t have much electronics knowledge, (they just wanna play, man!) they don’t know what to do, but it’s really simple to fix, and it’s really simple to prevent.

First off. When you buy a new guitar, take the jack plate off. There will be a nut on either side keeping the socket fixed, but as there’s no locking mechanism on the nuts, they soon work loose. To stop this, a dab of superglue, varnish, threadlock or something else suitable on the edge of the inside nut will stop it moving.

You can do this on the external nut as well if you like, although most people prefer to leave the exterior alone without the ugly blob showing.

Next, if you find you’re already having problems and the guitar is completely dead, it’s almost certainly one of the wires has come loose as described above.

I recently borrowed a lovely epiphone flying vee, and was told there was an unknown electrical problem, and could I do anything with it? As non of the knobs or switches did anything and there was no sound at all, my first thought was the input wire, and lo and behold, upon taking off the jack plate, the earth had come off.

So to cut a long tale short, I pared back the loose wire, soldered it up again, and tightened everything up, along with a dab of glue. Surprise, surprise – it lives again!

Electric Guitars

Electric Guitars

The Electric guitar hasn’t been around nearly as long as the Acoustic and Classical guitars. In fact, the Electric guitar was created just 70 years ago (the 1930s) by Adolph Rickenbacker. Since that time, the Electric guitar has greatly evolved to the where it is today. In this article, we’ll go over the history of the Electric guitar.

The History

Guitars, or similar instruments, have been around for thousands of years. The Electric guitar was first manufactured in the 1930s by Rickenbacker. Original Electric guitars used tungsten pickups. Pickups basically convert the vibration of the strings into electrical current, which is then fed into the amplifier to produce the sound.

The very earliest Electric guitars featured smaller soundholes in the body. These guitars are known as semi-hollow body Electric guitars and still are somewhat popular today, mainly due to the fact that they are flexible guitars.

However, with the use of pickups, it was possible to create guitars without soundholes (like the Acoustic and Classical guitars have) that still had the ability to be heard, if plugged into amplifiers. These guitars are called solid body Electric guitars.

The Electric guitar’s popularity began to increase during the Big Band era of the ‘30s and 40s. Due to the loudness of the brass sections in jazz orchestras, it was necessary to have guitars that could be heard above the sections. Electric guitars, with the ability to be plugged into amplifiers, filled this void.

The Electric guitar that is most prevalent today is the solid body Electric guitar. The solid body guitar was created by musician and inventor Les Paul in 1941. It is a guitar made of solid wood with no soundholes. The original solid body guitar created by Paul was very plain—it was a simple rectangular block of wood connected to a neck with six steel strings. Les Paul’s original solid body guitar shape has, of course, changed from the original rectangular shape to the more rounded shape Les Paul guitars have today.

During the 1950s, Gibson introduced Les Paul’s invention to the world. The Gibson Les Paul, as it was and still is called, quickly became a very popular Electric guitar. It has remained the most popular guitar for 50 years.

Around the same period of time, another inventor named Leo Fender came up with a solid body Electric guitar of his own. In the late 1940s, Fender introduced the Fender Broadcaster Electric guitar. The Broadcaster, which was renamed the Stratocaster, was officially introduced to the public in 1954. The Strat, as it is now known, was a very different guitar in comparison to the Les Paul. It had a different shape, different hardware and was significantly lighter. Fender’s Stratocaster Electric guitar is the second most popular guitar in the world, second to only the Les Paul.

Over the years, other companies, such as Ibanez, Jackson, Paul Reed Smith, ESP and Yamaha have all produced solid body Electric guitars of their own. However, most Electric guitars still feature the familiar shape of a Les Paul or Strat guitar.

PRS Guitars is a guitar company founded by luthier and guitarist Paul Reed Smith. It started in 1985 and its headquarters is in Stevensville, Maryland. Paul Reed Smith Guitars began as a crafter for local guitar players. PRS Guitars are usually crafted using mahogany with a maple top. The necks of their guitars are usually maple made but sometimes they use Indian or Brazilian rosewood as an alternative. The most dominant feature of their guitars is their signature bird inlays in their fret markers. The signature inlays usually comprise nine or ten different birds placed at the appropriate frets. Some of the high end and collectors’ items guitars’ inlays are made of semiprecious stones, rare shells, ivory and even gold. They are also noted to use the crescent moon inlays in most of their designs.

PRS Guitars are also renowned for their nuts and tuners which are specially built. Quite a few of their tuners are based on Kluson-style tuners. Another outstanding enhancement for their guitars is the bridge design. PRS has made three innovative bridge designs. They are the vibrato tail piece, wrapover tail piece and the one-piece pre-intonated stoptail. The PRS vibrato tail piece is very similar to the vintage Fender Stratocaster while the more recent wrapover tail piece is very exact intonation wise, that you scarcely ever have to adjust it. The pre-intonated stop tail in disparity is rather extraordinary since this design doesn’t allow intonation adjustments to balance with drop tunings and different string thickness.

What makes Paul Reed Smith Guitars diverge from other guitar makers are their pickup designs. The design and wind of their guitar pickups are completed in-house in PRS shops. PRS is very vigilant about how their pickups’ wire types are planned and the magnets they utilize since this is mainly essential for their business. Their more renowned humbucker pickups have gone by a variety of names like HFS which is short for Hot, Fat and Screams, Vintage Bass and Treble Bass, each generating their own distinctive sound. They have also designed many pickups according to the liking of distinguished guitar players like Santana and Ralph Perucci.

PRS is also noted for their guitar finish which highlights the maple topped body. The process usually involves multistep staining which twangs the 3D characteristic of the maple wood. The paints used in the finishes are often transparent or translucent which include bursts that produce shading. The paints used are typically made of automotive grade polyurethane or satin nitrocellulose, which produces a nice glossy surface.

Ultimately, PRS decided to unveil a new line of low-end, budget guitars to help in keeping up with the demand. Bearing in mind that their initial designs were geared towards professional musician types, they chose to make the Student Edition guitars, a less expensive line of guitars that would be made available to hobbyists and fans. The innovative guitar line was made in Korea and is more renowned for opaque finishes, non-locking tuners and low-end tone-woods to assist in lowering the cost. Although the line was prepared using lesser quality materials, it became increasingly accepted with casual guitar players and hobbyists, consequently attributing to the success of the line. This move was done in the late 90’s and proved to be the correct one for the company considering the fact that it vaulted them into mainstream success challenging several of the largest guitar manufacturing companies like Gibson and Fender. In 2001 in contrast, they had a few legal issues about their “Singlecut” model which looked much like Gibson’s Les Paul. Gibson then filed a trademark infringement against PRS. This resulted to a decision which ordered PRS to stop making the “Singlecut” design after a Federal District Court Judge deemed that “PRS was imitating the Gibson Les Paul”. However, in 2005, the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit overturned the lower court’s decision and lifted the injunction and gave up the ruling barring the manufacturing and sale of the PRS “Singlecut” guitars.

To value the rise to success of Paul Reed Smith Guitars, we have to think about the musicians who play their guitars. Think of this as kids talking about which athletes are wearing which brand of shoes. The most important PRS sponsored guitar player is the renowned Carlos Santana. He is the most legendary guitar player sponsored by PRS. In mark of respect to his influence as a PRS guitar player, PRS made a guitar “SE Santana” to emulate the sound and style of Carlos Santana’s guitar playing. It is the primary guitar in the SE chain to use a 24 and scale length. PRS believes that this guitar pays reverence to Santana’s skill and style better than all other guitars in the market. This guitar has the finest guitar reviews in quite a number of guitar magazines as proof of its superiority.

Another of the more distinguished PRS guitar players is Dave Navarro, previously of Red Hot Chili Peppers and now in Janes Addiction(founding member). Dave Navarro is one of the best 21st century multimedia rock stars. Dave Navarro has been using PRS guitars since 1987. Because of this, PRS decided to make a guitar after his partialities and is aptly named after him. The guitar is a custom 24 using the renowned bird inlays in a thin neck, gold bridge and tuners, vintage bass and HFS pickups and a customized truss rod cover. It really takes in Dave Navarro’s loud and exciting style of playing.

PRS in addition has a wide-ranging variety of sponsored guitar players. One of which is Orianthi. She is most renowned as Michael Jackson’s female guitarist in the movie Michael Jackson’s This Is It. Orianthi started playing PRS since 1997 after deciding to change from acoustic to electric guitars. On one occasion she saw Carlos Santana play live in Australia, her home land and her decision was made to start playing electric guitars. After her firm climb to success, PRS noticed her skills and decided to design a guitar after her. The SE Orianthi guitar is a custom 24 with bird inlays and a trademark “O” at the 12th fret. It has a red sparkle finish which impeccably fits Orianthi’s sizzling guitar playing.

The guitars in the PRS line have absolutely come a long way from the guitars crafted by then college student Paul Reed Smith. Smith, who was originally from Bowie, Maryland, started building guitars back when he was still enrolled in St. Mary’s College in Maryland. After he graduated, he practiced this endeavor and built guitars once a month. He along with John Ingram formed the nucleus of the PRS product. The growth of success of PRS can be attributed to Paul Smith’s affiliation with Ted McCarty, the past president of Gibson. Ted McCarty who was the designer and creator of the Flying V and Explorer guitars turned out to be Paul Smith’s teacher. Ted McCarty and Paul Smith’s joint venture resulted in the current guitar line of PRS. Their design originality of solid and hollow-bodied guitars is in fact remarkable. McCarty’s designs and innovations are still evident in today’s guitars chiefly in the guitar pickups of PRS.

PRS considers that guitar building is an continuing journey of discovery. With this in mind, PRS’ mission is to improve their products with uncompromised tone, playability and beauty. That is why they make every effort to manufacture the best guitars and guitar products to separate them from the rest.

For PRS enthusiasts, many would say that a PRS Artist Package guitar is pretty much the same as an ordinary PRS guitar sound and tone wise. But the difference between a Paul Reed Smith Artist Package guitar and an ordinary PRS guitar is very huge, cosmetic wise. When you say artist package, it means that you pay extra to have a PRS guitar dressed up with better top and extra rosewood in the neck. It would also mean that it would include the gold hardware instead of the basic chrome hardware in an ordinary PRS guitar. The headstock of a PRS Artist Package guitar is much more elaborate and the bird inlays are much more colorful. Basically when you avail of the Artist Package upcharge, all the materials that are used in the guitar will be of higher quality compared to the ordinary PRS guitars.

To better understand what a PRS Artist Package guitar is, let’s take a look at one and examine its features and design. Thu Custom 24 20th Anniversary Artist Package is one hell of a guitar. The features of this Vintage Natural Artist package include gold hardware, tremolo, locking tuners, wide/thin neck, elaborate bird inlays on a quilted maple top, a five way rotary switch plus a leather case. These are all the added features brought in an artist package guitar. The setup is perfect and the matching of the two top pieces is marvelous. It is a testament to the fine craftsmanship of PRS, the action; fit and finish are all perfect. The sound quality of this guitar is also exceptional. It has a wide variety of tones you can achieve, it has some strat overtones when set in single coil settings, but there is something unique about it. The humbucker has a great clean growl different from some of the LP guitars which are a bit muddier. The good thing about this guitar is the range of sound it can produce and it has a good light feel to it. This guitar will be very ideal for playing blues, rock or jazz.

The custom 22 Artist package is a different Paul Reed Smith Artist package guitar that is worth analyzing. The 2005 custom 22 artist package model was also crafted for the 20th Anniversary Artist package line. It uses Brazilian rosewood for the headstocks and fretboards. It also has the basic gold hardware and has the well-known Dragon 2 pickups which produce a really nice and sharp clean tone. It has the usual artist package add-ons like the locking tuners, elaborate flying bird inlays and the signature leather case. The action of the guitar is set a bit high for some peoples’ liking but it’s not anything that can’t be adjusted well by a good guitar technician. Aside from that, the fit and finish of the guitar is idyllic. The sound dominance of this guitar is to some extent unlike the custom 24 artist packages. This guitar makes a fatter and thicker sound that is more ideal for louder music genres. This is maybe because of the Dragon 2 pickups that are set up. It might not have that much range sound wise but it does produce a very good sound ideal for metal and modern rock music. All in all, this guitar is a smart investment, it’s not just nice to look at, but it does produce a fantastic sound.

Even though it is fairly apparent now that the major disparity in a regular PRS guitar and a PRS artist package guitar is just on the aesthetic side and has nothing to do with the sound aspect of the guitar, numerous owners of artist package guitars will say the opposite. A number of owners say that the tone and feel of artist package guitars are exceptionally poles apart compared to the common PRS guitars. Some claim that the artist guitars are lighter and have a very thin but wide neck. Some also say that they sound better given that PRS claimed that the artist models had more reverberating woods but now they no longer make that statement. They said that the artist package is merely for exterior purposes only. Though the distinction between a normal PRS guitar and an artist package guitar is just aesthetic, it isn’t essentially a terrible thing. Actually, it can also be a motivation for guitar players to play better. The AP guitars can be incredibly spectacular to watch and that would be a good motivation for the owner to feel good about his guitar playing, thus making him or her play better knowing that his or her guitar looks good. This is generally called the “Feel Good Factor” in guitar playing. Visualize it this way; it’s like the way you stride around when you know how good you’re clothed. It is the self-assurance you get when you recognize that you’re wearing something of high-quality, it’s identical with playing guitars. This is perhaps the reason why nearly everyone who can pay for it, avail of the artist package upgrade.

The majority of people who own Paul Reed Smith Artist Package guitars typically end up being very satisfied with the guitar they bought. It appears as if they don’t even mind the added charge they paid for to get that guitar. The majority say that sure you have to give some money in order to get a pretty good looking axe, one that is praiseworthy. Most guitar aficionados say that the paua bird inlays of the artist guitars is what separates it from other guitars. The most frequent comment that guitar fans can say about an AP guitar is that it sounds as good as it appears. You won’t be dissatisfied because the guitar isn’t just about looks, it’s also about exquisiteness. PRS spent innumerable hours to design pickups that would accommodate to most guitarists’ approach and flavor and these pickups are what are being utilized in the AP guitar line, most notable is the Dragon 2, HFS bridge pickup and the Vintage Bass neck pickups. Various people also say that just by seeing the Artist Package leather case improvement is already worth the money they spent.

To put it briefly, even though the Artist Package guitars of PRS only vary with the standard PRS guitars in terms of aesthetics, it still is an extremely enormous improvement to disregard. Almost all people would normally go for the AP upgrade if they afford it, since I guess pleasant appearance does matter when talking about guitars. You can in no way have enough elaborate designs in a guitar provided that the guitar too sounds as good as it looks. That is the whole motive why the AP upgrade of PRS is very favored. It has the perfect equilibrium of beauty and tone superiority. You can by no means say that your guitar is too simple and run of the mill, once you have a PRS artist guitar. An AP guitar will deliver what it’s fashioned for which is beauty and sound precision. These guitars are really worth every dime.

When you are buying a Paul Reed Smith guitar, having a Paul Reed Smith Artist Package is always a fantastic value. Paul Reed Smith Artist Packages are always worth the extra money.

If you are new to the electric guitar, chances are the majority of the electronics and components are a complete puzzle to you. Let’s face it you are probably finding learning to play the guitar is enough of a real challenge , however it can be useful to gain a deeper understanding of the way the guitar produces sound and ways in which you can really improve on the tone of a cheap electric guitar.

Pickups

We will start with your guitar’s pickups. If you play the guitar here is where the majority of your sound will come from. If you choose to customise your guitar this is likely where you may start as most inexpensive starter electric guitar kits only come with entry level pickups. Pickups come in many differing types but to provide merely a bare bones approach to this “pickups are available as either single coil or humbucker.

Single coil is essentially known for clean bluesy tones and are sometimes thought of with Stratocaster style electric guitars (some renowned Stratocaster players include Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix while Humbuckers have often been used for rock and heavier sounding guitar tones and are typically associated with the Gibson Les Paul (Slash, Jimmy Page, Gary Moore etc.) There are stacked Humbucker pickups, Active pickups and the list goes on.

Selector Switches

Selector switches select which pickup is being employed. These frequently come in 3 or 5 way selector switches permitting different mixes of pickups to be in action at once. The primary reason for this is to permit a guitar tonal variety.

Volume and Tone Pots (Potentiometers)

Next we have Volume and Tone Potentiometers (more widely known as pots) one more area you may give thought to customizing to achieve better control as again much like tuning pegs having better control will permit more precision with your specific tone.

Input Jack

Lastly you have got the input jack to attach the lead which is pretty self explanatory.

If for instance you are building a guitar using a guitar kit the majority of these components will come pre-wired however you can consider handling the wiring yourself after you have a clearer understanding of guitar hardware to offer you even greater control over your tone. Put it all together and you have your typical electric guitar.
