It’s a wonderful feeling to play in your first guitar band. Equally, recalling your first performance can be painful or very pleasant. Mine was thankfully ok! If you are starting off in your first band, some of the many hours I’ve spent rehearsing in earlier bands, will hopefully prove to be helpful advice.

The first thing I recall about joining my first band was embarrassment! Not because I couldn’t play guitar, it was because I lived the furthest away and had to get lifts off my dad. Not cool, especially as I was fifteen at the time.

For many guitar bands starting off, rehearsals are either in one of the group members bands garage or spare room and normally turn into an excuse for a beer or three! There can be issues with and complaints from….everyone, once you turn up the volume on your new guitar band’s first rehearsal! Considering using a cheap, local rehearsal studio which is sound proofed anyway, is always a good thing to look into as an alternative.

The cost of the studio facility can be split between the guitar band members. Most studios, (depending where exactly you live in the world) cost the price of a beer each for approx 2-3 hours hire and will have a PA set up already. A PA is basically a mixer, an amp and two raised speakers and mikes that the vocals go through mainly, but sometimes everything gets amplified through!

You will find Backline is normally part of the hire with most rehearsal rooms. By Backline I mean an assortment of guitar amps and cabs, a bass combo all included in the cost of the room. On reflection, the cost of paying to rehearse is still cheaper than finding thousands to buy expensive sound gear when you’re starting off, especially if you change your mind in 6 months and decide to take up scuba diving and drop the guitar!

A good rehearsal only really comes about when you have the audio balance right. If the the singer can’t hear the guitarist who is drowning out the drummer who can’t hear the bassist who can’t hear the singer…. I’m sure you see where it’s going – can’t you!?

At your first rehearsal, please remember two incredibly important bits of advice which you really must do. In musical terms this advice is the equivalent of not forgetting your passport before you reach the airport!

Number one is simple – please don’t forget to tune your guitars! And finally wherever and whenever you rehearse, you must make sure everyone in the room can clearly hear each other, you might wants to check and re check all your audio levels over the whole session. If you do this each time you get together, it really will help you have a great rehearsal!

Being keen to learn the guitar along with practicing on a regular basis will ensure you get the best results.

Being keen to learn the guitar along with practicing on a regular basis will ensure you get the best results.

The first and most important thing to realise when starting off learning guitar, is that you are at the beginning of an amazing journey. Stay with it and you will get there. Like most journeys that are worthwhile it may take a bit of time!

Depending on who your favorite band or artist is, although its quite normal to believe you will be able to strum along playing guitar chords to your favorite tunes after only a week of learning, this is often not the case.

You have to start somewhere and having had only four strings on his guitar, George Harrison told John Lennon in the early days of The Beatles he actually needed an extra two! Obviously it made no difference to John Lennon becoming such a successful guitarist.

Putting the correct amount of pressure down to hear each note when starting off playing guitar chords is really important to remember. Early on when learning chords, its common to catch other strings. This passes when you become used to the shapes you need to make with your fingers when playing.

Putting in some extra effort will move you quickly past any problem with learning your instrument. You are not alone. The worlds greatest guitar players all had to start off somewhere!

The guitar you buy to learn on, is probably the most important choice you’ll make directly affecting your progress. It’s true if you buy a beautiful Gibson Les Paul deluxe with gold plated machine heads, you’ll be learning guitar on a wonderful and beautifully crafted instrument. But you don’t need that to start off.

Many newbie guitarists before they buy anything, should first decide what kind of guitar style they enjoy and therefore want to learn. Do a bit of research into this first as there will be a cost consideration on what you eventually decide.

For instance, if you want to become the next Jimi Hendrix – remember! Once you have chosen and bought your first electric guitar, you will still need a few hundred extra for the guitar amp and cab, or combo, so you can actually hear what your version of Purple Haze really sounds like!

Paul Sadler is an accomplished guitarist. His site will help you learn how to play guitar. You will find cool and classic electric guitars for sale and useful advice.

The great majority of people incorrectly assume that painting an electric guitar is a task that’s outside their abilities. The truth is it’s essentially a comparatively easy job provided you be patient and follow some basic guidelines.

Often stripping back the existing paint or finish can be the most laborious facet of the job, some electric guitar kits have a seal coat that can be an issue if as an example you like a stain finish. This can frequently be terribly difficult to remove and time intensive. You may use a tool such as an orbital sander but you’re going to need to be careful and make the final touches by hand. After you’ve stripped back the paint dependent on the variety of timber used you might need to employ a grain filer.

Grain filler wont be neccessary if you’re repainting an older guitar but if your guitar is a kit guitar you have only recently purchased check the density of the wod grain and utilize a wood grain filer if neccessary. A loose grained timber such as Mahogany or Ash will typically require filling however most kits come in bass wood and this shouldn’t be neccessary.

Your next step is to get rid of the surplus grain filler and sand back the guitar till you’ve got a surface ready for painting. Remember you are prepping the body og the guitar for painting at this stage and any problems with the surface will become exagerated with every coat you apply from this point.

Next you need to begin applying your undercoat. Always make certain you apply each coat gently, countless coats isn't a problem and is adviseable to avoid runs. Once you have a good surafece to color on let the guitar dry (usually 12 hours) and then get ready to apply your color.

When applying your color coats remember to spray the guitar from a distance of roughly 2 feet and move quicky over the surface applying light coats. Build the color up as you go with each coat and avoid runs that are tough to remove and slow your progress. You need to also follow this process with your seal coats. You might need to let the guitar dry totally which can take almost 4-6 weeks before you can start polishing using stell wool or a fine grain sandpaper to really get a very smooth look to your guitar.

For extra tips about painting electric guitar kits there’s a great article here on doing the complete job from start to finish.

If you are thinking about getting a new guitar why not try something a bit different from the normal. Acoustic and Electric Guitar Kits are the ideal intro to guitar building and offer a good range of options from the relatively cheap to top quality offerings from distinguished makers like Martin and Carvin.

Guitar building in general can be particularly time intensive and challenging to say the least. It is also be quite dear when taking into consideration the diverse tools you may need particularly if building an acoustic guitar. Many individuals who’ve taken this approach mention that there actually isn’t any money saved in comparison to buying a quality store bought guitar.

One of the great advantages of building your own guitar from a kit is the time saving it allows compared to starting from the ground up. Without taking under consideration the finishing e.g. Staining or painting, a new electric guitar kit can be assembled and ready to play in under an hour. Particularly if you buy a pre-wired option from a kit guitar manufacturer such as Saga or Grizzly which are freely available on Amazon and other online stores.

It’s not all smooth sailing however and there are some downsides that should be pointed out. For example almost all of the time a budget guitar kit (e.g. Under $200.00) includes inferior elements e.g. Entry level pickups and tone and volume pots however these can easily be upgraded and the same may be said for less expensive pre assembled guitars in any case.

One of the most enjoyable aspects to building a kit guitar is the finishing process. Here’s where you can really add some of your own flavor to things and there are any quantity of resources available on the internet to assist you including video tutorials on You Tube. You will need some patience however as most finishes take a substantial time to dry before you will be in a position to start playing your new guitar.

If you’re considering an electric guitar kit visit eguitarkits.com this web site is a fantastic resource and provides a wealth of information for the newbie.

As a whole, electric guitarists tend to favor uncomplicated gear. As such, the ordinary guitarist will most likely choose simple stompboxes. That’s probably why very few guitar pedals have more than three knobs or buttons. In fact, there are a few players that feel three knobs are even too many. If this sounds like you, just face it, you’re going to have to take some time and teach yourself what the knobs on your guitar pedals do. A great place to start learning how to dial in your own sounds is with a delay stompbox like the MXR Carbon Copy.

Insert the Carbon Copy into your signal chain.

Your guitar plugs into the input of the Carbon Copy. Then connect the Output jack of the Carbon Copy straight to the Input of your guitar amp.

Before you add the Carbon Copy, you’ll need to determine where to put it in relation to your other stompboxes. The ordinary rule of thumb for guitar signal chains is dynamics processing (compressor/limiters), followed by distortion/boosters, followed by modulation processing (delay/reverb).

Understanding what each control does.

Delay:

The Delay knob allows you to modify the amount of delay time from 20ms (fully counter-clockwise) to 600ms (fully clockwise).

Regen:

The Regen knob allows you to set the number of delay repeats from one (fully counter-clockwise) to infinite (fully clockwise). The Regen knob functions together with the Delay knob so modifying the settings of one will affect the other.

Mix:

The Mix knob allows you to change the amount of delayed, or “wet”, signal from completely dry (fully counter-clockwise) to equivalent amounts of wet and dry (fully clockwise).

Mod:

The Modulation button allows you to add a certain amount of modulation to the delay signal. Modulation is an effect that changes the pitch of a signal by a small, regularly occurring amount, making a warbling effect.

There are two internal trim pots inside the Carbon Copy that provide allow you to alter the width and rate controls of the modulation effect.

Effect on/off switch:

Like most guitar pedals, the Carbon Copy has a foot-switch that toggles on and off.

So Make Some Noise

Start with the Delay and Mix knobs set entirely clockwise and the Regen knob set fully counter-clockwise. Turn the pedal on by stepping on the footswitch. A blue LED illuminates when the effect is engaged. Now just take some time to dial in your desired sound by adjusting the three knobs in relation to each other.

Don’t let a lack of experience stop you from twisting those knobs. Experimentation can deliver amazing outcomes.

Head on over to MXR Carbon Copy. While you’re there be sure to check out our top 5 Carbon Copy videos.

The characteristic ornamentation make Luna electric guitars stand apart from all the rest. But, they are more than just their attractive features. Lightweight wood construction with easy to use components make them a good choice for all players. Plus, they have a range of prices that can suit any budget. Whether the potential owner is an experienced player or picking up a guitar for the first time this is a brand worth a consideration.

A prominent characteristic of all the Luna models is their ornamentation. Moon phase fret markers adorn the neck of each one. This is the company’s signature design flourish. Every model has it’s own style to go with this uniform feature.

Along with the moon phase frets, each Luna model hast it’s own sense of style. The Henna line has a pick-guard with henna design laser etched into it. The grill work of classic automobiles is recalled by the nickel tailpieces on the Athena models. And, the small Neo Mini has a large pick-guard that gives the guitar a two tone look.

A key element of any guitar is the wood from which it is made. This brand uses lighter weight woods for it’s instruments. This is a plus for anyone who wants to play a long session. It is also beneficial to younger players who can not hold a heavier guitar.

Besides the weight, another important aspect of guitar wood is the sound it creates. Luna’s line of guitars feature mahogany and maple parts. These are two of the best types of wood for quality of tone.

No matter what the physical size of a player is or their skill level, this guitar brand is suited to them. The components are lightweight for easy hold-ability. They also feature thinner necks so people with smaller hands can reach all the notes.

One of the more important features of the brand are the prices. As instruments, they are as good as any guitar in the marketplace. However, they can fit into the budget of any player. For professionals with other responsibilities or beginning players, this can be a huge benefit.

Being a guitar player can be an enriching way to live one’s life. Playing this instrument can allow for self expression, it helps to find friends and with the right amount of skill it can provide a salary. But, one has to have a good guitar. Luna electric guitars make a good choice for anyone that wants a stylish way to play.

The choice of many amateur and professional musicians is Luna electric guitars. The quality and appearance of Luna guitars makes them great for looks and playability.

Your 330 become a member of the Rickenbacker products throughout 1958, even though during those times the 300 Series guitars seemed to be termed as “Capri” series. Rrt had been produced by the German luthier Roger Rossmeisl. This particular guitar is frequently related by many people guitar participants because the ideal guitar that creates jangle-rock sounds associated with jewelry from the sixties and eighties. Furthermore, moving over to be able to heavier, wider gauge strings might require filing a groove from the nut to assist with the more breadth through the string.

Modern 330s are outfitted with Rickenbacker’s Hi-Gain single-coil pick-ups. Recently, the actual type arrived prepared by using Rickenbacker’s Toaster pick-ups. This Hi-Gains have got noticeably increased outcome compared to the Toasters, eventhough it features led to the smoothness of the sound inside recent styles being a little bit various when compared to the older, pre-seventies models.
For each one of the 330’s 2 pick-ups you will find a pair of cabinets of which regulate sculpt as well as size. In 1961, a fifth “blend” knob had been positioned in the particular guitar to build the possibility correction through the guitar’s tone. That knob incorporates a a few different features, as an example being any sculpt vita mixer among pick-ups to have over-all EQ between treble and bass tones through the guitar. Its primary purpose, nevertheless, is always to be a bass pickup volume equalizer, enabling for the generally calmer bridge pickup to be increased for you to very similar variety of quantity utilizing the neck pickup.

A 24-fret neck around the 330 includes a beautiful very carefully selected grade associated with rosewood who has simple pearl dot inlays in the fingerboard. This neck was made involving maple developing a sturdy, dual-trussrod plan that’s created by Rickenbacker to ease undesirable turns and also flexes. This particular guitar is just about the simplest various guitars out there. Even bigger palms sensible perfectly around the large along with heavy neck of the guitar.

Eventually, the attractive shape from the Rickenbacker 330 layout is made up of maple sides, major and also rear and also one of a kind almond from the maple is intended to be observed while using the slowly tainted outdoor.

PRS has crafted lots of top quality guitars through the years, but none of them can match up against the PRS Hollowbody when it comes to elegance and tone. It’s possibly the most amazing and precise sounding guitar PRS has ever built. The form from the guitar appears like a masterpiece created by a famous artist and also the tone it produces is extremely unique in comparison with other semi-hollow guitars on the market today. It’s excellent in terms of acoustics and may produce a multitude of tones. It is among the faves within their semi-hollow line.

The Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody guitar is created with merely a small block underneath the bridge which connects the rear and the surface of the body. Because of this, the PRS Hollowbody has superb acoustics, with the kind of wood it’s produced from. The initial Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody model was already stopped but like an alternative, the Hollowbody 2 is a lot more exquisite and magnificent. The brand new version now has a V12 finish which perfectly improves the wood employed for the guitar. Another new addition towards the Hollowbody 2 may be the Pattern Neck Shape which enables for any comfortable feel.

The PRS Hollowbody 2 has several features. Its body is made of carved figured maple in the top and back while mahogany is used in the side. As stated above, it has a V12 finish which gives the guitar a vintage look. Paul Smith said that this type of finish gives the guitar the perception of an old instrument with a new finish. The neck is made of mahogany with bound rosewood on the fretboard. It modeled after the 25″ scale with 22 frets. The Pattern Neck Shape is a fat and wide neck style based on Paul Smith’s pre-factory design. The shape is similar to the guitars made for Carlos Santana and Peter Frampton in the 70’s and 80’s. It also has the trademark abalone birds on the inlays. The hardware used for the Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody 2 are Piezo Stoptail, and PRS Phase 3 locking tuners. The cover of the truss rod has the engraving HB II and the type of hardware used is nickel. The pickups installed in the guitar are 57/08 Treble on the bridge and 57/08 on the neck. It has the standard volume and tone knobs and a 3 way pickup selector. The new addition to the latest Hollowbody guitar is the PRS/LR Baggs Piezo System. This innovation allows you to plug the guitar into your recording console or PA and your guitar amp at the same time. The piezo option provides a huge variety of tones that you can produce and several switching possibilities as well. The hardware usually comes in gold instead of the basic chrome option.

The best thing about a PRS Hollowbody is the sound that it produces. If you are the type of guitarist who’s looking for a guitar that has very long sustain, then this is the perfect guitar for you. Due to the acoustics of the guitar, the sustain keeps going and going for however long you want it to be. This is actually the best asset of this guitar. None of the other guitars in the market can compare to the sustain that this guitar produces. The neck pickup gives a great blend which produces a nice thick and warm tone when you turn up the volume. When you use the bridge pickup, it produces a very nice bright sound. It sounds like a humbucker but it has a slight treble twang much like a tele. When you switch the pickup selector to the middle setting which combines both the neck and bridge pickup, it produces an unbelievable blend of bass and treble that you can’t find in any other hollowbody guitar. The sound that this guitar produces is best suitable for jazz, blues and classic rock genres. Some say that you can’t play heavy metal with this guitar, but others also say that with the right adjustment on the amp and the drive pedal, you can still achieve that heavy crunch perfect for a metal sound.

The action of a Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody is like every other PRS guitar, which is ideal. Despite the fat and wide neck, you still feel relaxed and having fun with it even when you are accustomed to thin ones. The Pattern Neck Style really was designed to make a “homey” effect when playing. The intonation can also be perfect and incredibly stable that you simply don’t genuinely have the necessity to adjust it. For the paint finish of the guitar, it’s absolutely magnificent. It looks as if it has a three dimensional sticker whenever you have a close view at it. That’s how elaborate the finish is. The paint finish is what you should expect from a PRS 10-top. Among the best reasons for a hollowbody is it can also be very light. After hours of playing, you’re shoulders won’t even get strained in comparison to whenever you play with a Les Paul or any other heavier guitar.

A PRS guitar, that Hollowbody one is also very durable and also dependable. While you will have to be further vigilant given that it’s hole, although all round, it is actually made being a container. The care to get a good body guitar along with a whole physique one is really unique, because the hollowed out bodied guitar is a lot more sensitive versus the solid a person. Nonetheless needlessly to say coming from PRS, you’ll not need to panic about the wear and tear and grab as you can hardly recognize it in the long run people. The finale will not be broken down despite five years people. Consumer electronics never ever receives messed up and unquestionably shows with this guitar with virtually no backup. That is certainly precisely how reliable this kind of guitar is usually. However, it becomes far wiser in the event you set up straps hair being a measure of extra care to protect yourself from acquiring blemishes and marks to the guitar in the event you accidentally drop them.

When PRS developed the following guitar, they constantly looked at achieving the best great hollowbody guitar that they can develop. As evidence its good quality, it will be the most favorite hollowbody guitar that PRS has ever introduced. A innovations this PRS place in to that guitar, such as the Pattern Neck Style, Piezo System along with the V12 finish off is why this particular guitar a cut above the others. This is really a wonderfully made guitar intended for guitar lovers and also guitar noobs likewise.

There’s nothing like picking up and shredding on your first PRS Hollowbody.
The PRS Single Cut series is probably the most controversial guitar ever made. The Les Paul design was the result of the collaboration between Ted McCarty and then famous guitarist Les Paul, hence the name of the design.

The PRS Single Cut series is probably the most controversial guitar ever made. To understand why this guitar is so controversial, we must first take a look at one of the most famous guitars ever made, which is the Gibson Les Paul. The Les Paul is a solid body electric guitar design which was made famous by Gibson and was first sold in 1952. The Les Paul design was the result of the collaboration between Ted McCarty and then famous guitarist Les Paul, hence the name of the design. Now, the Paul Reed Smith Single Cut design almost looks exactly like a Gibson Les Paul, minus the pickguard and other obvious features like the tone and volume knobs. Of course, the electronics design of the PRS Single Cut is very different from a Les Paul. To sum it up, the only thing similar between a Gibson Les Paul and a PRS Single Cut is the shape.

Gibson and PRS have been fighting over dominance in the market for years, but Gibson finally filed a lawsuit in 2000 against PRS, saying the Paul Reed Smith Single Cut guitar is a trademark infringement on Gibson’s Les Paul guitar shape. Gibson won in a federal court but PRS filed for an appeal to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and won. The reason why I’m stating this is because this holds testimony to the quality of a PRS Single Cut guitar. Once you’ve played a Single Cut guitar, you will see that this guitar is a first rate instrument, enough for Gibson to be worried about their Les Paul model, that they sued PRS.

Single Cut designs, specifically the SE series consists of a mahogany body, maple top, a PRS designed stoptail, and a flame maple veneer. The neck is wide-fat and is made of mahogany with rosewood a fretboard and has 22 frets. The PRS specially designed humbucker pickups create various tones that would fit any music style that you want to play. The neck has the customary bird inlays and is set up in a 25 inch scale length. The electronics include PRS designed tuners and has a “PRS” truss rod cover. The hardware is made of nickel and the pickups consist of one treble and one bass PRS designed humbucker pickup. It has one tone knob, one volume knob, and a three way toggle pickup selector. These features are the general norm of a Single Cut guitar.

If you are questioning whether or not the verdict of the court case was right, and if you desire to know how a Single Cut compares to a Les Paul, then you don’t have to worry. Once you’ve held and played a Paul Reed Smith Single Cut guitar, you will arrive to the conclusion that they are both totally different guitars. Although they look a lot like the other, they are nothing like each other. The Single Cut guitar can provide the more recognized Gibson Les Paul good competition anytime bearing in mind that Gibson hasn’t done just about anything regarding their Les Pauls of late.

A Paul Reed Smith Single Cut guitar is more suitable for a rock oriented guitarist because of the tone it produces. Most Single Cut players notice that the treble and bass humbucker pickup combination produces a fat sound that is best suited for classic or modern rock genres. Compared to a Gibson Les Paul, a PRS Single Cut guitar is less muddy and more precise. It isn’t too boomy, since it has the perfect blend of treble and bass. The clean tone of a Single Cut is so neat that it almost doesn’t matter which amp you plug it into. Once you pair this guitar with a good or at least decent distortion pedal, you will feel the crunch that isn’t present on any other guitar in the market. Due to the sound that this guitar makes, you can easily switch from playing songs from bands like Metallica to songs from bands like Coldplay without having to change guitars. That is how versatile the tone of a Single Cut is.

The action, fit and finish of this guitar is virtually watertight right out of the box. Most guitarists who possess a Single Cut have identical observations. The action is incredibly smooth, considering that the neck is fat and wide. Guitarists who are used to fat and wide necks will not have trouble at all getting accustomed to the neck of a Single Cut. The finish is also wonderful and long-lasting as well. Although the guitar doesn’t have a pickguard, you will on no account see scratches as a result of playing. The only downside that most guitarists see regarding this guitar is the tuners. Seeing as this guitar doesn’t utilize the original PRS Locking Tuners, the steadiness of the tune isn’t as high against say a PRS Custom 24 guitar. But that is just a negligible imperfection for this guitar. In general, this guitar is wonderful, action isn’t excessively low that it makes string buzz. The fit is perfect that you feel at ease playing either standing up or sitting down, and it isn’t as weighty as a regular Les Paul. The finish is a thing of magnificence that you will feel like staring at it for hours.

The Single Cut guitar is made to endure the test of time. This is one of the most durable guitars out on the market today. The electronics seldom get messed up and the wood that PRS uses to craft this beauty is very durable. You will hardly see any wear and tear on this guitar, even after three plus years of playing. The stock strap buttons are high quality, but to more meticulous guitarists, they may want to switch a more specific strap lock. It is also very reliable because of the accurate sound that it produces. Even if you gig with this guitar everyday for a year, you will still not need a backup guitar. That is how reliable and durable this guitar is.

The first impression that every guitarist gets from the PRS Single Cut is that ‘it is just like a Les Paul, only it’s a PRS’, but once they get to play it and get up close and personal, they all begin to see that this guitar is more than just a Les Paul look alike. It is actually very different, apart from the shape. The Single Cut sounds way different from a Les Paul. Most guitarists even forget their LPs and use the Single Cut as their main axe because of the diversity of sound that it can produce, plus it also has a better feel in the neck. Most owners of Single Cut guitars say that if their guitar got stolen or lost, they would buy the same thing since it isn’t pricey. That is also one of the advantages of a Single Cut. It isn’t expensive; it’s like getting a high end guitar for one fourth the price. Overall, this guitar is worth every penny that you spend on it. The tone is very diverse and very precise. It sounds as good as it looks which is basically PRS’ trademark. It truly more than what you would expect from a Les Paul look alike.

The PRS Single Cut tends to be a controversial electric guitar. To be sure you have all the possible lowdown about a Paul Reed Smith Single Cut, and check out at these sites before you buy one.

I’ve seen it so many times before. You buy a new guitar and happily strum away on it for a few days, before the jack socket becomes so loose you have to do something about it.

Every guitar I’ve had, every guitar any of my mates have had. It’s always the same. You get your tools out, turn it ’till it’s tight again, then some time later, it’s come undone again. And so it goes on, until one day the guitar goes dead.

What happens – After repeatedly tightening the outside nut up, the wire inside becomes twisted and under stress, so eventually one of the wires attached to the socket comes off and you’re left with a dead guitar. As many guitarists don’t have much electronics knowledge, (they just wanna play, man!) they don’t know what to do, but it’s really simple to fix, and it’s really simple to prevent.

First off. When you buy a new guitar, take the jack plate off. There will be a nut on either side keeping the socket fixed, but as there’s no locking mechanism on the nuts, they soon work loose. To stop this, a dab of superglue, varnish, threadlock or something else suitable on the edge of the inside nut will stop it moving.

You can do this on the external nut as well if you like, although most people prefer to leave the exterior alone without the ugly blob showing.

Next, if you find you’re already having problems and the guitar is completely dead, it’s almost certainly one of the wires has come loose as described above.

I recently borrowed a lovely epiphone flying vee, and was told there was an unknown electrical problem, and could I do anything with it? As non of the knobs or switches did anything and there was no sound at all, my first thought was the input wire, and lo and behold, upon taking off the jack plate, the earth had come off.

So to cut a long tale short, I pared back the loose wire, soldered it up again, and tightened everything up, along with a dab of glue. Surprise, surprise – it lives again!
