Teach Yourself Guitar at Home and Save Money on Lessons

Many people have unfulfilled dreams of being a rock star. There are always a million excuses for not picking up a guitar and learning to play but most of them come down to money – guitar lessons seem so expensive. But there are ways of learning to play guitar at home on your own, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. So let’s see how you can fulfill that dream!

1) Learning to play guitar online – Since you’re reading this on a computer, you already have all you need for this first method. There are many sites online that can help you learn to play guitar. They post lessons from beginner to expert, and many of these sites are free. There are also pay sites, but it’s recommended that you start with a site that doesn’t charge – you’ll be able to learn everything you need to get started without paying a cent. Later when you’ve gotten some experience under your belt, you may want to consider a more complete pay site.

2) Learning to play guitar from books – Books are another great and inexpensive way to learn guitar. Save even more by checking books out from the library. Look for books that teach you how to read guitar tablature while teaching you to play. And you’ll also want to find a book that has a lot of photos and illustrations showing how to place your hands.

3) Learning to play guitar from DVDs – This is a great option for people who like to be shown how to do something, rather than reading about it. DVD lessons are convenient and comprehensive, and while they may be more expensive than books or online lesson, they are much less expensive than having a private tutor. It’s also nice to be able to repeat a lesson as many times as you want.

Some beginner guitars come with DVDs that contain lesson plans to learn from. If you are considering taking up the guitar, buying an all-inclusive pack of guitar, amplifier and DVD learning system is a very cost effective way of learning how to play guitar at home.

To start learning how to play guitar at home, you’ll need a guitar, an amp and a learning method. We recommend a beginner’s guitar pack that has everything you need to start learning guitar right out of the box. For more information, check out our page on the Silvertone SSL3 Electric Guitar Pack.
